Interim Technical Accountant – Local Government

Cedar is recruiting an experienced Interim Technical Accountant for a local government client, who will play a key role in the financial year-end close for 2024/25. This role requires a fully qualified accountant with a strong background in local government finance and substantial experience in account closure processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the preparation of the Comprehensive Income and Expenditure Statement and Cash Flow Statement, as well as related notes, including the Expenditure and Funding Analysis
• Ensure accuracy and compliance with financial accounting standards across all statements and reconciliations.
• Conduct bank reconciliations and managing a Financial Accountant within the team.
• Utilise in-depth knowledge of VAT, with specific expertise in the public sector’s Making Tax Digital submission process.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Fully qualified accountant (e.g., CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
• Significant experience in closing accounts
• Proficient knowledge of public sector VAT accounting, including Making Tax Digital submissions.
• Familiarity with CIS supplier processes is desirable.
