Choosing an Umbrella Company
As a candidate, you have the right to choose your own umbrella company. While we can provide information on the umbrella companies we work with, we cannot recommend one over another—you are free to make your own decision based on what suits you best.
Why Do We Work with a Limited Number of Umbrella Companies?
The use of umbrella and managed service companies is subject to strict legislation. In certain cases, HMRC can hold agencies and clients responsible for unpaid taxes if an umbrella company does not comply with tax regulations.
Some umbrella schemes operate aggressive tax avoidance models to increase contractors’ take-home pay. If HMRC challenges these schemes and the umbrella company or contractor cannot pay their tax liability, agencies like Cedar could be pursued for the outstanding tax.
To protect both our candidates and our business, Cedar only works with a carefully vetted list of umbrella companies. Each of these is either FCSA approved or Professional Passport accredited, ensuring they meet the highest compliance and ethical standards.
If you have any questions about working through an umbrella company, we’re happy to provide information to help you make an informed decision.
