Background
Founded in London, Marex is a highly successful, PE-backed (JRJ Group) financial services firm with global operations. Marex has consistently delivered double-digit growth and exceptional profit margins, culminating in a successful Nasdaq IPO in April 2024. JRJ Group continue to hold a significant interest in the business post IPO.
The Challenge
Following the appointment of a Group CFO in 2023, Marex engaged Cedar to help scale their Finance team as the business professionalised and readied themselves for a Nasdaq listing in 10 months’ time. Requirements included:
- Build a high-performing finance function to meet Nasdaq regulatory standards.
- Secure talent from Financial Services leaders and Big 4 firms capable of operating in a PE-backed, rapidly scaling environment.
- Deliver results under a tight pre-IPO timeline.
The Solution
Cedar partnered closely with Marex’s CFO and finance leadership team to understand the evolving needs of the business and developed a bespoke recruitment strategy to address each role as an individual search. The strategy included:
- Targeted Search: Focused on identifying candidates from large financial services institutions and the Big 4 with relevant expertise.
- Permanent and Interim Hires: Delivered a mix of both permanent and interim hires to support the scaling of Marex’s finance function.
- Timely Delivery: Completed the search and placement of 15 professionals within a 9-month period ahead of the Nasdaq listing.
The Result
Cedar placed 15 people into the London HQ over a 9 month period pre-IPO, in both Permanent and Interim roles, and continue to appoint senior candidates post-IPO as the business continues to expand into new countries.
